about

"Numesthesia" is a singular piece of live theater written by David Kessler, with music composed by Rich O'Meara and Kevin O'Meara. Directed by Ryan Taylor, it was presented as part of Capital Fringe Festival 2017. The play reveals David's special form of synesthesia which allows him to experience the numbers zero through ten as real human beings. As their stories unfold, the number characters have their own musical themes that drive each scene.

The instrumentation is an integral part of the uniqueness of this show. Kevin and Rich each use a table of tuned objects and instruments including mixing bowls, prayer bowls, pots, pot lids, wooden frogs, tam tams, gamelan gongs, temple blocks and tea tins. In addition, there is a rich texture of marimba, vibraphone and keyboards. The resulting music blends the influence of Gamelan, Ambient, early 80s new wave and modern chamber music.
