Residing within the earth are the
Gnomes, pure intellect, receiving the ideas of the cosmos. Repulsed by the earth and the logic of humans, they nevertheless remain to avoid the threat of becoming amphibians. In concert with gravity, their energy directs the seed and the ideal form of the plant upward, out of the earth, where it is received by
Undines, who live in the realm where moisture meets the air, they swim about the emerging plant and encourage it to sprout, all the while avoiding becoming a fish. As the sprout grows upward, it leaves this realm and emerges into the air and light.
Sylphs, who are energized by the flight of birds, live in the air and infuse the plant with light, creating the archetypal form of the plant.
Salamanders, or fire spirits, follow the flights of insects, tracing them to the flower, and imbuing the forming seed with warmth.
